This thread is an attempt to put together, in one area, all the info and resources someone new to raw would need to feel comfortable feeding their cats the diet nature created them to eat.

FEEDING METHODOLOGIES

Grinding: All ingredients are ground and mixed together. Advantages = Every meal is nutritionally balanced, easy to feed after (fairly lengthy) preparation. Disadvantages = Doesn't do anything for dental health, doesn't make cats work for their food, taurine is destroyed in ...

Fish: Bad for cats and good for dogs?

I wasn't sure which section to put this in as it's about both dogs and cats but here it goes. I have been told several times, when looking at commercial cat foods, that fish is bad for cats and should not be fed as a part of a regular diet. I have never heard this for dogs however. on this forum I see many people feeding fish to their dogs but not to their cats which seems to follow that same trend. My question is, why is fish safe for dogs but not cats?

here are some links I've seen:

I asked my Papa, a retired butcher, to see if he could help me get some kidney (or some organ other than Liver) and today we are headed out to find it, he does not give up so i will certainly be bringing home some kidney. I'm SOOOOOOOO happy because this means I will finally be able to feed a complete raw diet if my parents allow it (or don't know about it). I have not been able to find anything ANYWHERE except liver, liver and more liver. Wish em luck!

We give the dog Bully sticks on occasion, but there's yet to be anything I can find that I am happy with for the cats! We have freeze dried liver for the dog too, I know the cats steal that.. I suppose that could be a treat for the as well, but was hoping there'd be something cool for cats.

I went in to make a contact, and it seemed to go well. I went by today, to see if they'd gotten word from their boss.. well, he wasn't in, but the butcher was!

He gave me 2 lamb hearts, 2 lamb livers, 2 sets of lamb lungs and EIGHT kidneys... for free.

What? Oh yes, I said F.R.E.E.

*dies of happy*

I also bought two beef hearts, they only charge $5 for two!

He said I should come down EVERY SUNDAY and he will give me everything he has left over from the week. EVERY ...

Where do you guys get your non-liver organs? I can find plenty of liver but nothing else. I have kidney and heart from when we cook whole chickens for dinner and take out the liver, kidneys, heart and neck but I'm not buying a whole bird when I just need kidney/spleen/pancreas or something. Have any of you found it at your regular grocery store?
A local and I were talking back and forth about his pidgeons he uses for human food, and he eventually decided not to offer us any as it was easier for him to just compost the leftovers.

Well, the other day he called and said he had some for us! He uses the term "Squab" and not pigeon, so I try and refer to it as such.

He gave us about 10 baby squab ranging from just getting pin feathers to almost adult birds who have passed away in the nest (parents stop feeding, or he culls ...

When we were buying our food pre-ground at $2.10/lb we were spending about $60/mth, now that we've transitioned to more chunks, I find our bills are even less! For the four cats, we're doing about $30-$35/mth!

I really don't understand why people say they can't 'afford' the raw diet.
