I just got Emu and supplier has included Emu stomach which looked like very rough tough skin outside and wrinkly, not stinky.

The label said "Stomach for treats". I let Palette investigate it and she grabbed bits like mice eats their cheese and ate a little and came back to eat like mice again.

I see she show interests in it but any of you know that if it is basically like tripe in Emu? Any nutritional value to it or better not to feed it?

Palette had about 3 small bites,no ...

I have been completely slacking on what I feed since I started my new job.

1) we've been getting given duck rather than chicken carcasses, which Saxen doesn't like

2) the mince from the farm shop is such a good price, low on bone and organ and full of good grass raised red meat, that it's been getting fed over the ox heart in the freezer

3) the ox heart is also still sitting in the freezer (I managed to get about 8 for 63p/kg from thw wholesaler) (there's three still in the freezer) ...

So I got a phone call from the company I use for a fair bit of what I feed, but told them that I didn't need an order this month because I still have plenty in the freezer. And then checked the freezer. Umm no, I do not have lots left. I have roughly something like 7 kg left, roughly a week's worth or so. So I thought I'd share here what I'll be doing to keep food in the house for Saxen when my normal source is disrupted, help anyone newish see what others do.

I have asked meat guy long time ago, whether they sell scraps or not and they told me back then that they can't sell but they started selling only block of fat.I wonder if many people come to meat guy asking for scraps and the store itself changed policy. They started selling ...

No obvious signs of death but despite being a mile from home (or a road) I popped him into a poo bag and carried him home. Thankfully I didn't bump into anyone. He's being dissected though so not proper whole food.

The dissection is for the benefit of our neighbours' 8 year old home schooled daughter. She's been enjoying her anatomy ...

So, for jaw deterioration, they gave me a suppliment made for Home cooked diets. I'm to give her 1/8 tsp daily, 6mth supply.

Should I go to vitamin cottage and pick a human grade fish oil (I have read that this is less expensive due to it not being specifically labeled for canines).
If I want to take advantage of specials at Costco or a local market, how do I know the meat is suitable to be fed to my dogs? What does enhanced mean? I looked at some chicken breasts with bone in and they had substantial amounts of sodium in them - is that natural or is that a preservative and is it harmful? What do I look for and what do I avoid when buying meat from the local markets? Are there questions to ask a local meat market butcher when I am purchasing meat there?

Today we got

9 lbs beef cheeks (free)

2 beef hears ($5)

35lbs lamb scrap (free)

Most of the lamb scrap is fat and skin with little meat, but we got 10 meals out of it (cutting what meat there was off) and some pieces looked like lamb steaks (mom got two meals worth of larger scrap for her dog). So we did well today. We used to feed the kids a lot of beef, I think now they're going to be mostly having beef and lamb!

Went to a Caribbean store today and came home with a large bag of chicken feet for Charlotte for 1$! I thought she would go after them like mad, she was given one as a treat before, but they were NOT what I was expecting when I got them home. I think the one she had before must have been freeze dried or something, these things looked just like little alien baby hands, and were super soft. They're pretty small, so I may just freeze them and save them for kitty when I find one.

Guess this question is for the crazy chi owners here.. sorry that's how I described you, didn't mean it, honest.

On another board, someone was asking about feeding quail eggs, thought they were too expensive and hard to find so suggested giving part of a regular egg rather than whole. Is a whole chicken egg too much food for a small guy like this? Have no idea how often she plans on giving them, I myself give Charlotte one or two every week, but she's huge compared to this little guy. ...

The pork is still frozen solid, so I either need to get a new hacksaw, or wait till tomorrow to see if it is any softer before I can package it up.

Have another order coming this week, 20 pounds ...
