Hello, thanks for the site link Kelly...this is great.

I have four dogs and six cats.
I switched two of my dogs on to raw diet about a month ago.
I am in the middle of switching the cats, seems to be a harder feat.
They are getting this raw ground up slurry mixed with wet canned food (wellness).
The less wet food there is, the less they eat. Some of the cats love the raw slurry, some of them don't.

Welcome! We are not as busy as T's forum, but there is still a wealth of information here, and many veteran raw feeders to give insight.

Cats are always harder to convince that we're -really- not trying to kill them with raw meat. Rolling Eyes It took us 8mths to switch our 4 cats (ages 1yr - 14yrs).

I've said it before, but I'll say it again.. take your time! If the cats don't eat the raw with less canned, add a little more canned for a few more weeks. Then sneak in an extra tsp full of raw in a month. I found it's harder with multiple cats because you have to make sure everyone eats, and some are more picky than others. Go at the pace of the slowest to change, is what I did.. 8mths was a hassle for me, but in the long run, it's for my kids... and I'd have done it longer if I had to!

Yay! Now this board will have someone new to raw (cats) and then I can learn from her experience!!! (until I bring home a kitty, I'm living vicariously through this board...)

A friend of my mother's rescued some kittens and has been bottle feeding them, they should be okay to go in two weeks. I would have preferred them to have a mama cat to learn from, but I'm thinking about taking one off her hands.

Heather, you bottle fed didn't you? But that kitty still had other kittys around to learn from too right? I don't know about this one, hoping that they aren't some weird little freaks by growing up with no older cat around... (and still wanting to wait until AFTER I go away to the beach for a week)

Cats who eat raw are the bestest cats.

T, I think handfed kittens tend to be more attached to their people, I've actually heard of some that get downright annoying.

Maybe your kitten will think she is a dog and romp with Charlotte? CUTE! I keep seeing kittens on Kijiji and pondering bringing you one or two for the BBQ. Wink

BTW, get TWO kittens! I really think cats do best with other cats around, keeps them occupied and entertained. *peer pressure* A raw fed kitten will be SO CHEAP, so money is no excuse, lady!

Hey T, yes I bottle fed Waverli from a week old before her eyes opened. Luckily my older male is very nurturing and LOOOOVES baby kittens but I don't think it matters if they play with littermates or an older cat. I would definately get two because they will learn from each other how to play and interact with their own species. Studies have been shown that monkeys and apes taken from their mother and away from their species become seriously socially retarded when introduced back into a group later on. This outcome is pretty standard across the board no matter if it's a dog, cat, ape, etc. The most critical learning takes place during kittenhood and if you socially isolate one kitten and want to get another cat later I think you are setting yourself and both cats up for disaster.

And Kelly, what the heck are you talking about BBQing kittens for?! Shocked LOL

Hey and welcome to the forum!! Glad to see you are switching all your pets and I hope the cats don't give you too hard of a time. Willie was an easy switch as far as meat goes, organs are harder, he still does not like them but i sneak them in like I would pills or something, I make little slits in the meat and stick them in. Neko on the other hand will not touch anything raw (or cooked for that matter), we are working on it.
