Butcher scraps today! Empty Butcher scraps today!

    Today we got

    9 lbs beef cheeks (free)
    2 beef hears ($5)
    35lbs lamb scrap (free)

Most of the lamb scrap is fat and skin with little meat, but we got 10 meals out of it (cutting what meat there was off) and some pieces looked like lamb steaks (mom got two meals worth of larger scrap for her dog). So we did well today. Smile We used to feed the kids a lot of beef, I think now they're going to be mostly having beef and lamb!

Wow, nice deal! I wish we had a butcher around here, getting things so cheap would be really appealing for the parents.

Wow... nice deal.. Free meat... Palette loves to come over for meal Razz
I do not know any butcher, wish I knew someone.

By the way, I heard from someone that walmart start free meat program. And web is this. http://usza.us/

I heard you must sign up to get info but if you know someone that can work with you,it maybe great place to look at. If solo to get meat,it maybe too much meat for freezer space. I myself still have not looked into this too far so,I cannot tell you more than website address, but thought everyone maybe interested in looking at it.

Thanks yassy, Palette is welcome to come over anytime! Wink

Looks like you have to be non-profit for that free meat program, because then they can write off the meat as a donation. Rolling Eyes So no small time raw feeders can take part.

Kelly, I'm jealous too. Next to impossible to get free anything from my butcher because they make their own 'pet mince'.

Aw, that sucks! I am so glad most of our butchers have no idea about this raw movement. LOL

Kelly- what exactly is cheek meat composed of? Is it actual muscle? Skin? Fat? Mostly fat with some meat? I have heard of this several times but have never asked for it. May have to get some from the local processor.

Seemed to be lots of meat, fat and connective tissue (hard to cut through). It feels weird!
