    Switching Neko Empty Switching Neko

I have begun trying to switch Neko, my picky cat, to raw. It took nearly a year to get him eating wet food for God's sake so I know I'm in for a long transition. Yesterday was day three of the switch. First day I mixed chopped small raw chicken with a smaller amount of wet food. He sniffed and left. Willie got raw chicken for dinner too. I sprinkled some kibble on Neko's food in hopes that he'd at least try it. In the morning Willie's food was still there, Neko's was gone but my parents said Neko had begged them for food all night so I have a hunch Willie ate Neko's and Neko didn't eat any. Day two Willie ate his food and only a very small portion of Neko's food went anywhere, I didn't see anyone eat it because when I put it down Neko gave the sniff and leave. Who ate the small amount I have no idea. day three I put down Neko's food and dug right in, YAY! I only saw him eat a few bites at first, he came back 15 minutes later for more. In the morning it was gone (that's how he always eats his wet food, he grazes over several hours)so hopefully he ate most or all of it. So he is making progress for sure, I'll tell you all how tonight goes!

    Good luck!

I like that you're keeping a journal of sorts, Siam. It helps folks who want to transition when they see stories showing all the many ways it can be done.

    Keep us informed! Smile

So last night I used a different wet food with the chicken, and even though he usually likes the wet food he rejected the food. I don't think he ate any of it at all. Hopefully tonight will go better.

This last week he's been having a lot of resistance to eating the wet/raw chicken mix. He will eat a little but not much and he's not happy about it. I'll continue and see how it goes. Tomorrow will be a new flavor of wet food so maybe he'll like this one better.

Thank God Wav weaned herself to raw. LOL! Kudos to everyone switching cats from dry/wet to raw. It seems quite the undertaking. Hopefully he will do well with the different flavor. Crossing fingers!

It really is a pain in the butt, but Neko's dandruff and shedding is out of control and I know raw would help with that. His coat is terrible. Using a different type of wet food was a big help, he ate up all his wet/chicken mix, I was very relieved to say the least. Unfortunately they don't sell this food in big cans so I only have one more days worth of this flavor. Sometimes I don't think I'll ever be able to switch him but then I remember how hard it was to switch him to wet food, took nearly a year but I did do it so i think I'll be able to make it happen eventually. Willie was actually harder to get onto wet food but he switched to raw pretty fast.

He is slowly progressing. I used a lot less wet food last night and more chicken and he still ate it in his usual grazing manner. I still used enough wet food to get all the chicken covered in it but he is surely getting a chunk of chicken in almost every bite. It actually appears it satisfied him more than wet food alone does as he woke me up a whopping hour and 15 minutes later than usual for breakfast (this cat is very particular about being fed breakfast on time), yay for me I got to sleep until 7, no other teenager would stand for this lol.

    Let's hope this continues!

That's great, Siam. Keep the faith! As you said, it'll happen, it just takes time.

I had to LOL ref. your teenager 7am comment. That's not just true for teens you know.... my mom called and woke me yesterday shortly after 8am even though she knows I'm on vacation and like to stay up late and rise late. I'm still harassing her about it. LOL!
