Hello! This is my first time to post to this forum & I'm excited to get some feedback from you guys.
A little background... We have a 2 yr old Shih Tzu, Rox, & a 4 month old Jack Russell, Yadi.
After reading a great article on raw feeding, I began doing tons of research. I researched & studied for nearly a month. I came to the conclusion, that without reservation, a raw diet was the healthiest option, & would ultimately lead to a longer & happier life for them. So, I felt totally confident & prepared for this new adventure. I got everything ready and switched the kids over to a raw diet approximately 4 weeks ago.
So far, it seems to be fairly smooth sailing with the puppy, except for the fact that he NEVER EVER seems satisfied. There is never a time when he eats & isn't still acting like he is starved. Ravenous! I know he is just a puppy, but wow! Is that pretty normal?
Now, a little more background on Rox. That girl has never been a food scarfer. She has been a delicate eater since day one. I was there when she was born & have been with her every step since, & I can say she's always been a slow & finicky eater. Back in the day, we had trouble finding a dog food that she would touch. The whole "she will eat when she gets hungry enough" thing that I got from lots of people did not apply to her. She would just go without. I ended up making her food for a while until I finally found a dry food she liked. So, the transition to raw feeding has been much more difficult for Rox, which is where I am needing the most help. She doesn't like hardly anything that I give her. Based on all of the recommendations I read, I started them out on chicken for their first raw meat. Ha! She will not touch it. She will not even lick a piece of raw chicken. She will happily eat ground beef, or beef or pork that has been cut into fairly small pieces, but that is about it. I have tried all kinds of meat...venison, turkey, pork neck bones, ground chicken, pork ribs, etc. And she will not touch the organ meat either. I've offered her liver, gizzards, etc.
What am I doing wrong? Should a dog refuse raw meat the way she does? It really surprises me bc I figured her instincts would take over & she would love it. I do not want this to be an epic failure, so I could really use some help. Thank you so much!
