    Damn PetSmart Empty Damn PetSmart

Post  Kelly Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:10 pm

Monday of last week, Marley started to vomit and have the runs. He couldn't eat anything without puking it up later, and was generally lethargic and sickly.

Since he is old, has cancer, we thought this was him telling us it was "time" and made him an appt for the next day.

His checkup went fine, he ate and kept down breakfast that morning! The vet said he must have had some sort of virus, likely picked up from PetSmart when he went to get his nails clipped Sunday.

So from now on, I will not bring my dogs to PetSmart. This is TWO dogs who I -know- got ill from their floors! Working there for 2 years, I know the floors get cleaned, but now I'm wondering what's going on that can make my dog so sick from just walking on the floor (cleaning agents? not actually using anything but water?).

Not worth having a sick dog just to show them off a little..

I used to work at petsmart a long time ago, a job I had as a teenager. And I remember that their idea of "cleaning the floors" was having a bucket of water they never changed between uses. It was nasty and the few times I was supposed to mop, I would gag as I pulled out the mop because it smelled like animal poo.

When I asked where to dump it and get water, I got shrugs. I ended up just doing it in the bathroom sink(ew, now that I think back on it).

But yeah, I have a feeling, it's probably the poor mopping etiquette.

I think it actually may have been the grooming salon itself that caused the issue, as now we've realized both dogs were THERE then got sick. Mad

My employees roll their eyes at me when I make them mop the rooms twice a day, even when the floors LOOK clean. I DEMAND things stay as clean as possible so stuff like that is less likely to happen.

I'm sorry your pups got sick. That sucks Sad

Thanks. Luckily he is fine now, but it was scary!

Yeah, cleaning is so important, you can't see all germs!
