    How long? Empty How long?

I was just talking to another forum member and it turns out we both spent about two years reading, asking questions and reading some more before we began transitioning our pets to raw foods.

So I was wondering - how long did YOU research raw food before you felt comfortable enough to begin feeding it to your pet(s)?

Oh, it was about a year BEFORE I got her, and NOW it is almost two years, since I'm still constantly researching the diet. Mainly so that I can reinforce WHY I feed raw, and help others as I can to make the switch too!

Now I'm on to researching raw in CATS!!

To be honest, we didn't research long.

I've always fed them some raw stuff as long as I've had pets.. the odd bit of ground beef would fall and Zaq would attack it before I knew what was happening.. the dogs would get chicken legs every other week or so.

Then we got 3 new cats within a months time (yikes! not recommended LOL) and we had 4 cats with ages from 13-kitten! Well, what the heck do you feed them!? We got into Orijen/Evo dry, then because Zaq had issues with crystals at a young age we'd always give them canned daily. SuperPet was going out of business and had their canned Wellness all buy one get one, so we stocked up on that. Soon, we were feeding more canned than anything and noticed an improvement in box issues (re: stink), so I think I saw someone mention raw on a forum somewhere... and thought, well... it makes perfect sense really. So I started! Ess started to sell us raw ground, and we mixed it in with the canned for about 8 mths until everyone was eating ground only.

I think the "research" period was... uh, a month? LOL

I'll admit I've sort of researched off and on for about 3 months. Jack was our first cat, never had cats before. When I get a pet I jump in 150%--one of the many things my husband loves about me.

I always wanted the best for Jack and nutrition weighed heavily on my mind. In the 15 months we've had him we've switched foods often because I was always finding something better. When I heard someone mention raw I thought hmm how hard would that be and I realized quickly it wasn't hard so I recently jumped into it. We aren't 100% raw, and probably won't ever be. I don't have many people in my life who share my love of cats (who live locally that is) so for someone to care for my cats and me to feel comfortable having them feed raw would be tough. The boys will always know dry food, sadly for convienience sake. But they aren't addicted and prefer raw.

It seems a general consensus for most raw feeders to research a lot first, I can totally understand why as it can seem so confusing at first!

I am just glad to hear I am not the minority of researching less than 6mths. Wink
