Can anyone else chime in here? I know the old forum had someone who made up an Excel program for this, it was wonderful!

Re: 2%-3% of body weight?
Not sure
In the wild cats need about 140g of mice a day. That comes out to about 5oz. Most canned food is about 5.5oz for a 8-10lb cat a day. I give my kitties 6oz.
Sorry probably not what your looking for

Re: 2%-3% of body weight?
I've done the calculations based on 2% body weight for my 9 pound cat and he should get 2.88 ounces of food a day. I'll probably put up the calculations soon and hopefully the member with the excel program will come along to make it easier for everyone. Most people start at the 2% or 3% body weight level and increase as their cats need it to maintain weight or keep from being hungry.

Re: 2%-3% of body weight?
chris, good point! Please feel free to make a thread about this, as well.
We don't even measure exactly, we rough it out and see what keeps everyone at the right weight and active (not recommended for most people, I am sure), but it works for us.
That's what we love about raw! There isn't only one RIGHT way.

Re: 2%-3% of body weight?
Hey everyone! I had wondered what happened to those old forums.
Here is the link to the excel sheet that you can use to calculate the food measurements.
http://artsiekat.com/forumpics/RawCatDiet.xls
Some cells are locked (the ones that don't require input), but you can change them. The sheet protection password is 123456
Hope you like it.

Re: 2%-3% of body weight?
If I don't have excel on my computer will that sheet not work? I still think I'll post a thread on how you do your own calculations so if you could throw this link in there as well I'd appreciate it, I can't see it on this computer though It probably works on my other one though.

Re: 2%-3% of body weight?
Yeah, you need excel to make it work, these are the percentage for the cat's diet, from the excel sheet:
2.0% percent of body weight for food per day
80.0% percent of meat in food
10.0% percent of bone in food
5.0% percent of liver in food
5.0% percent of non-liver organ in food
So you can do your own calculations, if you don't own a version of excel.
Oh, and it should be noted that hearts are actually in the meat category, because they are a muscle. And, of course, liver is in it's own category.

Re: 2%-3% of body weight?
I think the general consensus is 2% - 4% (rather than 3%). Also, this is truly just a guideline. Inactive cats might be at the low end, very active cats might need even more than 4%.
If you can see your cat's ribs, he's likely too thin. If you can't feel his ribs with your hand, he's likely overweight. Check your cat's weight regularly - if he's gaining too much, cut back; if he's losing too much, increase what you're feeding. Keep tweaking until you find that "sweet spot".
