    Shrimp? Empty Shrimp?

Post  artsiekat Mon Feb 16, 2009 2:03 pm

I know that canned food comes in shrimp flavors, but I was wondering if shrimp really is good for our kitties raw, because it's a shell fish?

Does anyone know if it has any nutritional value for them?

Not sure on this, but I can only assume someone may chime in shortly about it!

We feed cooked shrimps with tails, etc here as a treat when the humans have them. Wink

I am not such what the dangers are for consuming raw shell fish. The only thing I can think of is it possibly containing thiaminase. But after searching for a bit couldn't find any info that said it was found in shrimp.

Shrimp has all sorts of nutrients. Use this site to see what it has http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/ just type in raw shrimp and select the group. Then your set.

Probably the best route to go is to only give raw shrimp once a week just like any other seafood.

Thats all I can think of

Wow, I never considered shrimp as part of their diet. That would make a nice change every once and a while, thanks for bringing it up!
