Awesome! Charlotte found a squirrel on a walk the other day, and I so wanted her to have it, but there was no obvious sign of what killed it so I was afraid of poison! Totally gonna go road kill hunting in the spring though!

What other road kills have you fed?

If the squirrel is dead on the road and still fairly fresh, I will place money that it's not poisoned. It's actually very unlikely for a squirrel to eat rat/mouse poison because it's placed in crevices where rodents are likely to be nesting, not out in the open. Bait stations would also be very hard for a squirrel to get poison from as many are designed with small entrances and baits are formulated to attract a particular, not every critter in the land (not to say a dog wouldn't get into it but dogs are opportunistic so they generally eat anything edible). Now, let me make a note if an animal is in an odd spot like someone's yard or driveway and doesn't look like it's been hit then better to pass on it.

On the topic of roadkill though, I have only fed squirrel and one rabbit I accidentally hit and killed. For some reason Amos doesn't tolerate squirrel anymore but Waverli does love it so she has about 5 of them to eat in the freezer now. That's ok, her food bill needs cutting because I can feed Amos the mutton and soon to be goat I'll be getting at the end of March.

I dated an animal control officer for two years. He came to my house one January and said "go look in the truck, Christmas is over." There was a baby deer in the truck, he was calling it Rudolf. They just take them to the crematorium. Wish I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have let him get away so easily.

Could phone him up to hit him for some dead things though? Anyone ever feed turtle? lol! What about skunk? Shocked
