Organic vs 'regular' livers Empty Organic vs 'regular' livers

As I stated in my thread in the cat section about my favourite butcher, I got 50lbs organic pork liver.

Just the other day, my mom had dropped off some pork liver from our other butcher contact (not free, he makes us pay $0.50/lb), which I had stuffed in the freezer for safe keeping until I can get to it to cut up.

Now. The liver I got today is all a very lovely dark brown/red. The liver mom gave me is... light brown. :S

Is the reason that one is organic, the other is not? I thought it was curious.

Can you get a pic of the non organic liver? I have been (independently) observing livers from various sources and am finding certain ones that I believe to be diseased and failing. They have a certain greyish brown color to them and sometimes occur in spots and sometimes the entire lobe is affected. I am curious if this is due to inappropriate foods being fed to the animal or possibly disease/cancer? Are the organic livers from pastured animals or animals that are still fed grains but only organic grains? The liver I got from my pastured sheep looked great! I am also wondering if the deeper red has anything to do with age of the animal and the lighter the color the older the animal? I am very curious!

I also wanted to add that neither Amos or Wav want to eat the discolored livers. I can cut away the spots and sometimes convince Wav but often times she won't eat it at all and she is not a finicky eater by any means (which makes me believe this color indicates disease).

Okay, it's sitting thawed in my fridge right now, I will likely get to it tomorrow or Friday! I haven't forgotten, just haven't had any time. Sad

Okay, I went thru the liver tonight.

Took some pics that I will put up later. There didn't seem to be any big spots or anything, got some pics of some spots, not sure they are "bad" spots or not.

The liver darkened A LOT when thawed, so I am confused. All my organic liver stays DARK when frozen, this liver went very very light brown.. odd.

That's what I thought, but I wonder why it turned light brown when frozen, while the other stuff always stays dark? That's why I wonder if it's organic vs non.
